
The
National Board of Examinations is an autonomous organization established by the
Govt. of India under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The prime
objective of the Board is to conduct high uniform standard of Postgraduate and
Post-doctoral examinations in various disciplines of modern medicine and allied
sciences on an all India basis leading to the award of Diplomate of National
Board. The emphasis is on evaluating professional ability and practical
application of sound theoretical knowledge in the practice of the specialty a
candidate is certified in.

To recognize “Center(s) of Excellence” and to identify experts in
various sub-specialties and allied sciences.

To create a forum for high-level scientific interaction between expert
groups.
4.
To facilitate and encourage our young post-graduates aspiring to provide
for higher level of specialized services in own country.
5.
To prevent brain drain of qualified medical professionals leaving our
country for further academic achievements.
6.
To improve and promote the existing medical institutions in India to
perform high professional services in various fields.
7.
To promote medical research and Innovations adaptable to the
socio-economic and culture of our country.
8.
To conduct evaluation by appropriate mechanism for assessment of training
programme examination before certification as specialist by the National Board
of Examinations.
Well equipped centers, after due inspection, have been identified in the concerned specialties. Candidates with DNB/MD/MS/DM qualification in the concerned speciality are eligible with preference to DNB candidates. Selection is based on an entrance test. The trainee will go through a structured training programme, maintain a performance record book and undergo an examination at the end of the training. Candidates will be awarded Fellow of National Board of Examinations, at the annual convocation of the Board.
The
Fellowship programme is to provide opportunity for hands-on-training for
acquiring high proficiency in selected skills to the postgraduates.
The
Board is at present successfully conducting the fellowship programme in the

exam is conducted using MCQ paper and OMR type answer sheet. However, The Board in future may conduct the exam using
Computer Based Testing (CBT)/ Online Examination System.

payment of Rs.200 by DD only.

A
downloaded form has to be accompanied by a DD of Rs.2200/- drawn in favor of

website of NBE.

The date
for computing experience shall be the date of obtaining the Eligibility
Qualification. (DNB/MD/MS/DM)

A
combined merit list based on total performance of candidate out of 120 marks
shall be published.
·
The Board
will allot seats at various institutions on merit cum choice basis.
·
The
successful candidate if employed either in a govt. hospital or a private
hospital will have to produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Board at
the time of application.
11.DECLARATION
OF RESULTS:
The results will be posted on the website and all the selected candidates will
be individually informed.
Tentative date for declaration of results is 30th June 2005. However,
the same may vary.
There
will be a probation period of 3 months.
Registration
number will be issued after 3 months of joining.
There
will be 8 semesters of 3 months each. The first semester/probation period will
be for the basic training, a recap of his/her basic qualifications. The actual
training will start after three months.
Since
trainees will develop and progress at different rates, there is no set number of
patients, which a trainee must see, or operations, which he/she must perform.
Rather the trainee must be exposed to an adequate number of cases and operations
to develop a level of competency, which will be regularly measured.
Trainees
will be expected to progress through the process of:

a procedure/operation
·
Performing
the procedure/operation with guidance and assistance
·
Performing
the procedure/operation without expert assistance but under direct observation.
·
Performing
the procedure/operation without expert assistance or direct observation but with
assistance immediately available if necessary
·
A
specialist of that procedure
In
their portfolio, trainees will have to complete a competency grid, which both
they and their trainer will require to sign off at each stage. This will list
grade of operation and competence to be achieved at each stage with index
procedures and operations.

Candidate will attend the
activities such as patient care in hospital including emergencies, rounds,
clinics, case presentation, journal review meetings symposia seminars and
assignments. Lectures, laboratory or experimental work and conferences etc.
during the Fellowship as prescribed by the department and not absent
himself/herself from work without valid reason.
Exchange programme:
During the training 2 years period the Unit shall organize and provide
exposure to the working of another institutions in same specialties.
FINAL
ASSESSMENT:
Prior to being deemed eligible to
be assessed for the award of fellowship, the candidate shall have to furnish the
following:
1.
Prescribed Application Form duly signed by the Head of the Department and
Institution.
2.
Log Book & competency grid
3.
Competence certificate to appear for the final examination on completion
of the prescribed course of training from the Head of the Department
FINAL
EXIT (Practical) EXAM:
The final exam will be held after
two years of training in the concerned subspecialty. The National Board of
Examinations will conduct the written and clinical examination.
AWARD
OF FELLOWSHIP:
Fellowship of National Board (Specialty) to be awarded at the time of convocation.
